It can also be made with just Red Onions too but addition of Green or Spring Onions render it a beautiful colour as well as a distinct flavour.
You can add some Lemon juice too just before taking it off the heat. It's optional. I sometimes also add a small piece of Dry Tamarind directly to the Soup as it's cooking. It gives an excellent flavour and aroma.

Ingredients and spices that need to be Prepare to make Crab Soup:

  1. 4-5 Crabs
  2. 1 tsp Salt
  3. 1 tbsp Butter
  4. 1 tsp Oil
  5. 1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
  6. 8-10 Black Peppercorns slightly crushed
  7. 1 small stick Cinnamon
  8. 1 Bay Leaf
  9. 1 small bunch chopped Green Onions
  10. 1 small chopped Red Onion
  11. 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  12. 6-7 cups water
  13. 2 tbsp chopped Coriander Leaves

Instructions to make Crab Soup

  1. Heat a little of Oil along with Butter in a pot. Add Cinnamon and Bay Leaf at first followed by the Ginger garlic paste and the chopped Red Onion. Saute it until a bit browned with no raw smell.
  2. Next, add chopped Green Onions, Turmeric, Cumin powders and the Peppercorns. Add Salt and give all a light mix. And finally add the cleaned and cut Crab pieces. Saute all for a minute or two. And then add water. Slow cook this on a low heat for the rest 20-25 minutes. That's it.
  3. Adjust Salt if required and garnish with some freshly chopped Coriander Leaves.
