It is most popular snack variety in Karnataka. It is not a soup actually, Crunchy urad dal bondas soaked in yellow toor dal soup, which is served very hot!!

Ingredients and spices that need to be Take to make Bonda Soup:

  1. For soup:-
  2. 1/2 cup Toor dal
  3. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  4. 1 tsp ghee
  5. 1 tomato chopped
  6. 2 tbsp ginger (grated)
  7. 2-3 green chillies
  8. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  9. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  10. Pinch asafoetida
  11. 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  12. leaves Spring curry
  13. 1 tbsp chopped garlic
  14. 3 tbsp grated coconut
  15. to taste Salt
  16. For Bonda:-
  17. 1 cup urad daal
  18. 2 green chillies chopped
  19. 1 inch ginger
  20. leaves Few curry
  21. 1/2 tsp crushed pepper
  22. 2 tbsp coconut (cut into small pieces)
  23. as per taste Salt
  24. As required Oil for deep frying

Instructions to make Bonda Soup

  1. To Make Soup:- soak toor dal for 30 minutes. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistle with turmeric powder and ghee. Keep it aside.
  2. Take a kadai add oil then mustard seeds and cumin seeds. When they have crackled add curry leaves, chopped garlic, grated ginger, green chilli and asafoetida. Saute for a while.
  3. Then add cut tomatoes and cook it. Now add dal and 3 cups of water and salt. Cook till it comes to boil. Check for the consistency now, if you find it thicker add little water. Normally the dal is thin like soup consistency.
  4. Now add grated coconut, coriander leaves mix well and simmer for 5 minutes or until the flavour are well absorbed. Switch off the flame. Soup is ready.
  5. To Make Bonda:- wash and soak the urad dal with water overnight or 3-4 hrs.
  6. Grind the daal along with green chillies and ginger and make a smooth thick paste.
  7. In a mixing bowl add paste with chopped curry leaves, salt, coconut pieces. Mix it well and make a fluffy batter.
  8. Heat oil and drop a ball of batter and deep frying medium flame until golden colour. Remove it from the oil onto a kitchen towel. Repeat the same procedure with remaining batter. Bondas are ready.
  9. Now To Make Bonda soup:-
    Heat the soup (we need hot soup). Take a serving bowl with 2-3 bondas. Pour 2-3 ladle of hot soup. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Enjoy this hot bonda Soup.
